For our second unit this term, the topic revolves around fiction adaptation. This unit builds on to the skills we learnt in our first yea, regarding screenwriting and ficiton directing. Using an advanced creative methology we will be required to research, plan and produce a short video, 3 - 5 minutes, for multi platform transmittion that is a work of adaptation derived from a literary source.

Additionally we will be required to chose one essay question and write a fiction adaptation essay, consisting of a wordcount 2 000 - 2 500 words. I have already chosen essay question three, which is the following.

Essay Question 3 - In adapting a novel the adaptor inevitably infringes the integrity of the original text – discuss with reference to at least one text adapted for broadcast on television.

During a bit of quick research in to the world of adaptation, and its true meaning and definition;

I discovered that the word adaption can be similiar to the word and gadget adapter, that you use to transform power supply in different countries. And therefore it can be compared to each other quite easily. Here is a way to think about, and easier grasp the idea of what adaptation actually is.

- An adapter is used to transform and regenereate the power, or voltage if you like, to match the electrical supply you want to use. Depending on the type of plug or tip you use, the adapter will match the socket and voltage to the country your in and you will be able to use your own electrical supplies without the fear of ruining your supply or the socket in the wall.

= Adaptation; is used to transform and regenerate the story and power of story being told, depending on which platform you use, theatre, film, music, novel, to reach out and match the audience and target groups perceptions. Stay true to the original work by using different tools to develop, and try to be able to make a story come across as believable or unbeliable as possible without ruining the story itself or the relationship between the target group or audience and the story.
